Protest against SPDC idiosyncratic policies

23rd November 2007
On Nov. 20th, 2007 at approximately 7:00pm, the SPDC closed down Laja Yang border pass as a political tool, once again. This event occurred two days after raiding homes and offices of KIO/KIA in Myitkyina and Bhamo, Kachin State.
In light of recent violent crack down on the peaceful demonstrations led by Sangas across Burma and imposing more pressure to the ceasefire groups, the junta has again displayed the truest of its intentions. At a critical moment for the Union in resolving political turmoil in the country, SPDC remain to waste its last throws in crushing those who failed to blindly follow its commands.
As recent regime's mouthpiece newspapers headlines indicate, many cease-fire groups including most of our Kachin's, were forced to sign "ready-made" partitions denouncing Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's statement. The only Kachin cease-fire group, the KIO/KIA, which refused to blindly sign onto an SPDC endorsement, was immediately retaliated by house raids and close down of border operations.
During this grace period of national reconciliations, SPDC must be reminded that all Burma is watching their every step. The military junta cannot claim itself to be the leader in Burma's democratization process while preying on its oppositions. Exchange of ideas must be tolerated within the country and consequences of violent attacks will only produce haste violent deposal of the current SPDC leadership. Therefore, the Kachin National Organization demands SPDC to stop arbitrary arrest, release all the political prisoners and enter genuine meaningful dialouge with democratic groups and the ethnic nationalities.
